Linen Curtain Panel
Heavy linen that drapes like it has been in the house for years. These curtains are deliberately low-fuss — no sewing machine, no complicated techniques. Just cloth, a rod, and a little patience while they find their shape.
How to make them
-
Measure your window
Measure from rod to floor (or wherever you want the hem to land — sill, hover, or pooled). For width, measure rod end to rod end and multiply by 1.8 to 2 for fullness. Add 20–25cm to the length for ease and any hem allowance.
-
Cut your fabric
Cut along the grain line if it's visible. A long ruler and fabric chalk will keep you straight. Linen frays beautifully — you can leave the raw edge intentionally, or fold and press a 2cm hem at the bottom and secure with iron-on hem tape.
-
Attach the clip rings
Space clip rings evenly across the top of the panel. Start from the centre and work outward, placing them roughly every 10–12cm. You want even gathers, not big dramatic folds. Thread the clips onto your rod before hanging.
-
Hang and steam
Hang the panel and let the linen relax for a few hours. Run a steamer or a hot iron held an inch from the surface to encourage the fabric to fall straight. Adjust the clip spacing if needed. It will drape better every day for the first week.
